Wishful Thinking

With Jemma Flourie, Bram van Anrooij , Manasse van Krimpen and me, Gijs van Haaster.

2023-2024

In this project we had the task to make a StopMotion movie with a group of 4. It was part of a Minor at Sint Joost School Art and Design, IAS. We had half a year to think of and make the whole film.

Because we all were very excited about different forms of animation, we really wanted to make a story that could fit all our ambitons. For example: I really wanted to work with stratacut and make a dragon puppet as well as animate them!

We all had different roles through out the project: I was one of the Lead Puppet Animators, extra Storyboard artist, And did A few Props.

Animating with stopmotion was very much fun, always testing and looking back and fixing what little mistakes you made in the last frame is a great way to be working.

Because it was a smal

Research for Stratacut.

It's a very different way of thinking about animation which made it interresting to figure out. This way of animating is about animating in a sculptural way.

Caterpillar is the puppet that was made by me, but disigned with help from Manasse. The Disignes had clothing and more Cat likeness, and for the matirial we wanted plactecine.  The basic clothing and malubale nature of the plastacine would reflect the character that is Catapiller.

we stuck to the plastacine but had to remove the clothing in a later stage because we couldn't figure out a way for the clothes to mix well with the clay in the small amout of time we had.

I worked on the consept art making a few diffrent storys on the diffrent intervieuws we had done to get inspiration for our project!

I worked on the storyboards aswel alongside our main storyboarder Manasse. afther we had a genral idea of how the story was going to go. I thought that our storyboard was sill a bit to flat and we hand,t thought mutch about how we could use camera angels to make our story more dynamic and more intresting framing.

The final Animation timings was somthing we struggeld with. Because we had so many cool character and storys we wanted to put in our animation. we had to prepare verycarefully and make sure that parts that where not essentail could be cut out of the overal story without leaving a gap.

I made the desicion to make the set round, to make the characters feel more as caricatures. I also made the hill and the bench.

this is the isparation drawing Mannasse made and the tests Jemma and me did to get the set to work as intended.
